This very rare Broadwood
concert grand, a duplicate of the one (No 17047, which is in the Cobbe
Collection, based at Hatchlands, Dorking, Surrey) hired by Broadwoods to
Chopin during his UK visit in 1848, has unexpectedly come onto the market.
It is a straight-strung
Patent Repetition Grand Pianoforte measuring 8ft 1½ins long.
The repolished
heavily-figured Rosewood cabinet looks amazing, with an ornate 'pie-crust'
edge to the lid, fretwork candle supports and carved cheeks.
The turned and octagonal legs are surmounted
by heavily carved tops and supports.
The lyre-shaped lyre has matching carvings and
two wooden pedals.
The keyboard has a compass of 6⅔octaves from C to G.
This instrument has been sympathetically
conserved, with parts only being replaced where necessary.
The hammers and damper felts have been renewed and the action regulated.
The instrument is tuned
and in good playing condition.
Length 8ft 1½ins.
Ideal for a Chopin
enthusiast, or someone looking to own a beautiful piece of history.
This instrument is being
sold as seen as an antique musical instrument without our usual
